PBS: American Masters: John Muir in the New World

Last night I watched the PBS American Masters Presentation, John Muir in the New World. A short description of John Muir from the article is shown next:

“A lover and champion of the American wilderness, Muir believed that it was our responsibility as citizens to protect our natural surroundings. Through his tireless advocacy and his writings, Muir helped preserve the Yosemite Valley, led the fight against the Hetch Hetchy dam – the first nationwide battle of the environmental movement – and was the force behind the creation of the National Park Service.”

I enjoyed this show very much. I’m a big fan of our National Parks having visited many of them in the last 38 years.

John Muir came along at the right time to save our wilderness awareness so that urban development was kept out of our national land treasures.
