Gold Refill

Like many people I often frequent Starbucks and through my purchases attained Gold Card status.

In striking up conversations with the staff over time, many of them came to know my first name and sometimes small talk was exchanged. If the opportunity arose during slow periods, I would tell some of my personal life stories.

When I earned my Gold Card status last summer, I started receiving my refills for free. One day, one of the young ladies described me as “Gold Refill” on my cup of Ice Green Tea. The pace of her pronunciation reminded me of the song Goldfinger from the 1964 movie of the same name. My mind started to create…

A few days later I printed out my “Gold Refill” lyrics shown below and returned to the store offering them to a couple people on staff who know me.

He’s the man, who seems he can’t stay away
Most every day
Such a Gold Refill
Knows what he wants the moment that he comes in
Wearing a grin

Stands in line for a Venti Green Tea
Pays his tab while he waits patiently
To be served to him as a series of sequels
Mixing in just three blue equals

Gold Refill
Pretty girl prepare for his stories told
From days of old

A short story or two you may hear
His intentions and points very clear
To remember his drink never varies each visit
For the tea he finds exquisite

Gold Refill
Pretty girl prepare for his stories told
From days of old

He’ll use Starbucks Gold
Only Gold
He loves Gold
He’ll use Starbucks Gold
Only Gold
He loves Gold

This started a new inside joke between me and now most of the staff. I no longer am identified as, “Don” but by my new namesake on my cup. 😉
