If a Senator makes an official statement known to many to be false, does that Senator need to apologize in public?

If a Senator makes an official statement to inform about their core beliefs and values and later does not live up to that statement, does that Senator need to apologize in public?
I think so.
I don’t like liars. Sometimes I feel there is no distinction between the first case I cite and the second. Perhaps there is a distinction in some situations that is not so obvious, perhaps the reaction of one blinds the other.
People make mistakes. People make mistakes in judgements. People sometimes forgive when maybe they shouldn’t and sometimes don’t forgive when they should.
I’m not perfect, I don’t try to be. I usually apologize when I realize I should. Sometimes I fail in that regard.
