Recent Thinking

Today's song is The End Of The World by Skeeter Davis, released in 1963.

New opportunities in my partnership are the result of some of the work my partner, Marc, is working on lately. We do weekly video chats to keep up with each other beside the routine emails dealing with client matters. We have another venture that is taking shape for 2010, but that's all I can say about it for now.

Yesterday I watched the 1947 movie, The Sea Of Grass with Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. That was the first time I every watched it. I enjoyed the story of how a man's vision of what he oversees can be clear at times and at other times clouds his way. It's a reminder that we always need to step back and take a look at the big picture.

I must admit I have a fondness for the wide open prairies of Kansas. I've driven across and through that state several times in the 1980's. I often wonder what hidden message it has that draws my interest to it. Watching that old 1947 movie stirred those mysterious feelings in me once again...

I think a lot about my daughter, her husband, and our grandkids. I know my wife does the same. Maybe there is something about reaching my age of 59 that is genetic about those family connections.

Earlier this week, I attended a Toastmasters meeting affiliated with my project management group in San Diego. Afterwards I thought about how much I've changed in the 18 months since I left my former club. I know I made the right choice to leave when I did. My focus is on so many other matters these days.

In about two months, we turn back the clocks and the early evening darkness cycle kicks in again. That is the time of year when I begin to slow down. All my life that has been my personal cycle. My recent thoughts will find likely germination in those winter months, waiting for Spring to arrive and bear fruit...

Here's a Time Magazine article about American Consumers. I wrote something similar on, September 4, 2009.

My friend, Gary, wrote another excellent leadership article, Prisoners, Vacationers, Consumers, and Sponges: Welcome to a Leadership Workshop!.

My Facebook friend, Zane, from Perth, Australia, Teaches Guitar. He seems to be a good-natured guy and writes intelligently on Facebook. He and his wife just purchased a larger home so he can teach more students.

My friend, Rick, writes about his cruising experiences.

I believe this is true.
