Ansel Adams: Visualizer Of Earth, Water, Sky, And Sun

The above image, Half Ansel, Half Don is also available as a Desktop Background

Today's song is The World I Used To Know by Jimmie Rodgers, released in 1964.

For several days now I have been reading Ansel Adams: An Autobiography. The last time I read this book was the first time I read it, back in August 1999. I purchased it after attending an exhibit of his many works. Until that exhibition, I had never heard of Ansel Adams. This book is only one of two that I ever read straight through without stopping.

Ansel's book had a profound affect on me, first as an emerging artist. This time around, almost ten years later, he teaches me on a deeper personal level. I can appreciate his thoughts now that I am older and have experienced so much of life since 1999. It is good to refresh my perspectives by someone of his influence and insight.

The partial quote below is from page 31 of Ansel's book. His truth expressed in those words is now imprinted on my heart, mind, and soul...

"Art is both love and friendship and understanding: the desire to give. It is not charity, which is the giving of things. It is more than kindness, which is the giving of self. It is both the taking and giving of beauty, the turning out to the light of inner folds of the awareness of the spirit. It is the recreation on another plane of the realities of the world; the tragic and wonderful realities of earth and men, and of all the interrelations of these."

Sunday afternoon I spoke by phone with my good friend Karen, who lives on the east coast. We met online in 2001 and has been married a year longer than Sherry and I. Karen is a real down-to-earth woman, a deep thinker and expressive woman. One day I hope to meet her in-person.

Southern California is slowing returning to the natural desert that is hidden underneath the browning green lawns.

As a Mac user I'm always happy to read about continuing success stories where Mac computers are preferred over alternative choices.
