Taken In Stride

Today's song is Walking in Rhythm by The Blackbyrds, released in 1974.

I strode through the Birch Aquarium at Scripps a couple weeks ago. It was a nice day and I took some pictures there and nearby places too. I received written permission from that organization to publish those pictures. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, they are very relaxing.

It is the political season here in North County San Diego. Candidates or their representatives are already out walking and canvassing the neighborhoods for support. I have been solicited by two Republican camps so far:

They and others know that the citizens here are pretty fed-up with the way convicted Randy Duke Cunningham abused his congressional position. It pays for anyone seeking political office to be attuned to the minds of the electorate.

Hmm, now it is possible to write word-processing documents using the web. What kind of open-collaborations will someone think up next? ;-)

On Wednesday I was the Toastmaster functionary at my Twin Oaks Toastmasters club meeting. My theme for the meeting was Leaders As Mentors and I delivered several hand-outs of information supporting that theme. It was a wonderful day with everyone energized and contributing their best efforts there. We heard a new member tell us about himself and his goals, those he already reached, those he is still working towards in his life.

We had an excellent impromptu session (known as Table Topics) led by another new member who oversaw that segment, asking great questions, allowing the members called upon to give great answers. Table Topics is an opportunity for all present to give short responses and learn how to think-on-your-feet while speaking smoothly. The questions and answers provide a way for the attending to learn a bit more about each other. That helps us give better advice to them as they progress through the learning process.

The evaluators performed their analysis of the speaker and meeting itself. Our President exercised his duties very well. Another new member joined today, bringing our membership up to 35. We are regularly adding new members each month. The club is on track to receive the Toastmasters International's highest club award again, Presidents Distinguished Club this year, for the third year in-a-row.

With all these cool experiences, we are definitely in rhythm. In fact they are part of the way that San Diego eases life's difficulties and allows me a life taken in stride.
