Strange Magic

The above image, Lingering Vibes is also available as a Desktop Background

Today's song is Strange Magic by Electric Light Orchestra, released in 1975.

I'm heading back to Chicago today for the next eleven days to visit family and friends there. Chicago is where I grew up and spent the majority of my years until we moved to San Diego in 1996. I had some strange magical times as a youth in Chicago. Some of those stories are documented on this site in various pages.

I wasn't alone in my magical path, both women and men shared very interesting times with me way back when. Some of them I'll see on this trip I've known for over 50 years! Chicago is still a pretty cool place in my judgement. :-)

All the women I shared the magic of love with before my marriage lived in Chicago. Through the magic of my friendship with Angel, I met Sherry, who later became my wife. She and I have shared some magical times over our 36 years of marriage. Our daughter, her husband, and their children contine the strange magic we call life.

Some of the many people I shared magical times with no longer live in the Chicago region. Some I'm in direct contact with and some I monitor from afar. I'm sure if we could all be together in one place it would be one hell of a party going over all the times we shared. Some probably would prefer a more private setting to reminisce...

The art image I chose to display today is Lingering Vibes, a fitting picture for some of my memories of the Chicago region. I'm a Californian in so many ways, yet I remain true to my Chicago roots and the strange lingering magic that stays with me still...

I had a long conversation with Janie Grant when she called me on Monday. She is a special person in my heart. We never met in-person yet she and I have so many close connections that we marvel at how we arrived at knowing each other since 2001. If it wasn't for a wild time with my first love in the late 1960's, I know Janie and I would have never met so many years later. Some things are meant to be and some things are not along the path of life. I take it all in with a long perspective lens.

Last Sunday Sherry and I went to see the new movie, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and enjoyed it very much. That is definitely a movie of wild times.

Twin Oaks Toastmasters, my former club is holding their Tenth Anniversary Celebration on June 10, 2009 at Noon. Only club alumni are invited. I won't be able to attend because of my Chicago trip, but I'll be there in Spirit.

My young friends, April and Jason received a special mass this week from Pope Benedict XVI in Rome, Italy. After nearly two years in Italy while Jason was serving as a surgeon for the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander, they now are moving back to the states.

My friend, Nicki, is pleading for people to take some of the horses from her rescue facility this week.

My friend, Jeff Rutan, sent me the link about his Dad's continuing success story.

My friend, Rick, sent me the link about three free weekends at National Parks this Summer.

A useful article about Port Mapping.
