Upon Being Free

The above image, Vision at Ocean Shores is also available as a Desktop Background

Today's song is Let Me Be by The Turtles, released in 1965.

Being free means many things to different people. Just because a person may live in a free country, they may still be not feel completely free. They may be trapped by a job, a bad relationship, by other constraints they find hard to break out from under. The case in point I'll describe next is a favorite of mine.

Sunday afternoon I watched the 1962 movie, The Miracle Worker. I wrote about that movie's impact previously on September 14, 2007. Helen Keller was helped by her Teacher. From their ensuing relationship, Helen went on to teach us. My point being, Helen was freed from an her internal prison due to disease to the world awaiting her genius. She shared her lessons openly.

Being free has responsibilities, each person knows what those are and if they are able to act upon them. No one walks the world alone. Wherever any free person is at any point in life, many folks helped them get there.

Today I thank all those in my life who helped me get here and wherever I go from this point forward.

Today is my long time best friend, Fred Gellman's birthday. Happy Birthday, Fred! We've known each other more than 50 years! I spoke to him in his Denver home Saturday night by phone and he's doing fine.

Below is our picture taken last year in July during my Chicago Trip.

It was first time we had been together since August 1968 back at Calumet Beach in Chicago near the spot shown below.

Wherever you go, you could be watched.
