4th Of July Trip 2009

The above image, Rainbow Cottonwood, Arizona is also available as a Desktop Background

Today's song is The Way We Were by Barbra Streisand, released in 1974.

Sherry and I spent the 4th of July weekend with my good friend and mentor, Gene Weed in Cottonwood, Arizona. We had a fun time during the drive there and back and of course, while visiting. This was the first time Sherry and Gene met and they liked each other right away.

Here is a page of pictures from the trip. Included are a few Desktop Backgrounds and a panoramic view of Horsethief Basin.

While we were driving through Phoenix on the Loop 101, a Dust Devil suddenly appeared on the freeway and we were forced to drive right through it. That's the first time I've witness one in a metropolitan area. Our last encounter with one in 1985 in New Mexico shifted our car from one lane to the other. This time that did not happen.

On Saturday afternoon, we drove through Oak Creek and Sedona and stopped for lunch for an hour at the Wildflower Bread Company located in the Hyatt Pinon Pointe complex. The new road improvements through Sedona are very nice!

On the night of the 4th, we watched a large 30-minute fireworks display in Cottonwood. We drove by the event location about an hour beforehand and already nearly 5,000 people had gathered there.
