Christmas 2008

The above image is, Tim and Donna's 2008 Christmas Tree

Today's song is Merry Christmas, Darling by The Carpenters, released in 1970.

This week Sherry and I attended two Christmas parties and enjoyed seeing our friends and meeting new people. Both homes were exquisitely decorated and the food and drink provided was very good.

I asked our neighbor's, Tim and Donna, if I could take a picture of their Christmas Tree to use on my home page and they agreed. Their holiday decorations are the best I've ever seen anywhere, even outdoing the window scenes in the old Marshall Fields store in downtown Chicago.

We enjoyed our dinner at home and spoke to our family members either by phone or via iChat video conference with our daughter's family.

I am blessed that my family and friends celebrate Christmas openly and warmly. As I fell asleep on Christmas Eve I was thankful for all the good times I share with them in various ways.

I also thought about the few sad Christmas seasons that remind me not everyone is always cheerful during this time of the year. Be prepared to offer good tidings to those you meet whether you know them or if they are a stranger to you. You never know how your smile and kind words may affect them. Your actions might just be what they need...

I can add to this story about Carlsbad Tourism Bureau (ConVis).

In April 1996, not long after Sherry and I moved to Carlsbad, California, I joined the Carlsbad Village Business Association (CVBA). At the time, I was a partner in my previous software development firm, EveryDay Objects, Inc,(EDO). One of our software products was a library of code that could create any Internet protocol required. In this particular case, we created our own web server for clients and our own purposes.

EDO hosted server space and created the first web pages the CVBA and ConVis ever had, free of charge. That's right, we started those organizations on the Internet and gladly helped them move into the modern Internet age. The leadership in both organizations appreciated our work on their behalf. As time went by, both organizations migrated to full-time webmasters and our assistance was no longer required.

I am happy to see how both the ConVis and CVBA web sites have evolved over the years since we at EDO started them on their journey.

My long time friend and author, Robert M. Katzman, wrote a wonderful story named, Silent James.

I added a music video link to Don's YouTube Picks page, "Some Guys Have All The Luck".
